I like the lacksidasical narration. Did you do that
in one shot or did it take a couple of takes? Did you have notes?
I sat down, microphone in hand, and began to incessantly
prattle on about my adolescent pastime. I had to edit thirty
minutes of humming and hawing before distilling it down to a
few coherent clips. In real life, I am nowhere near as articulate
as in this video. |

Was your camera really fried?
Yes, "Not Microwavable" was its final film. A hammer
and several screwdrivers were used to dissect it in order
to extract the tape containing the moral lesson seen here
today.

What, if anything, do you dislike about Flash animation?
1) The ease it brings to making lots of really bad
animation.
2) Trying to synchronize sound accurately for playback is
a pain.

Where
did you get the bunny footage?
The
footage is from a tape called "Great Escapes". It's
part of a series of nature documentaries produced by Marty Stouffer
that includes "Wild Babies" and "Precious Moments".
In the original sequence, the bunny actually escapes. The bunny
pops up from under the snow and runs away while the lynx looks
on... somehow I'm not convinced he got away. |

Did you have the singer dance against a bluescreen
background, or what?
I had World Provider rock out in front of a green
screen which I replaced with a variety of backgrounds using
digitally enabled "movie magic". All told it probably
took about 40 hours but it was a labour of love and worth
it to be able to bring the unique musical stylings of World
Provider to life visually.

In
Macbeth, what did the glass jar symbolize?
What *didn't* it symbolize! On the most superficial
level, the transparent jar represents the Macbeth character's
fear of the ghostly or supernatural, always looming in the
background but never precisely addressed. But that's baby
stuff. More hardcore literary types will probably immediately
realize that the jar is but one of many psychological manifestations
in the film -- a haunting dagger of Macbeth's fevered mind
that is invisible and imagined -- or perhaps deliberately
imagined to be imagined? There are certainly shades of Hamlet
in this and it's clear that the filmmaker is having some fun
here. The allusions are running fast and thick in this puppy,
and it probably goes without saying that the apples on the
jar's label (the one portion of the jar which is *not* transparent/imagined)
hint at the lingering taint that comes from acting upon vile
temptation -- "out, out damned spot" indeed.

What
is your fascination with animals?
I
wouldn't say I'm fascinated with animals, but animals are very
watchable. People relate on an emotional level to animals, but
I think that this has more to do with the mechanisms of voyeurism
and projection than anything to do with animal psychology. Nature
documentaries are interesting for their underlying ideological
contradictions about nature, social order, ethics. Then there's
the whole genre of "talking animal" movies... |
